Frequently
Asked Questions
How does this
work?
The web page
loads a small
piece of
software from
the server on to
your computer.
This then runs
in a safe
execution
environment,
preventing harm
to your computer
or violations of
your privacy.
Applications
like these are
sometimes called
applets, and
they have the
advantage that
they are
generally more
responsive than
html based web
applications.
What sorts of
applications
cans use these
applets?
This
technique is
very powerful
and can be
utilised in a
variety of
applications.
You may want to
implement a
responsive and
sophisticated
shopping cart
for your online
store, whilst
maintaining your
existing system
for users with
incompatible
browsers.
You might want
your website to
perform some
kind of
preliminary
aptitude testing
for potential
employees, or
provide faster
methods for data
entry and form
filling.
This approach to
software
development
allows this, and
is becoming
increasingly
popular.
Why does this
require Windows
and Internet
Explorer?
The software
uses the
Microsoft .NET
Framework, which
is currently
only adequately
developed for
Windows, and
currently
Internet
Explorer is the
only browser
capable of
running .NET
applications.
There may be
some way to
allow these
applications to
run in other
browsers, but we
haven't
investigated
this yet.
What is the
Microsoft.NET
Framework?
It's a
software
development
platform.
The wikipedia
article can be
found
here.
I just get
the loading
message, the
sample
application
never appears.
It's
possible this
could be because
your browser has
JavaScript
turned off.
I have Windows
Internet
Explorer and the
.NET Framework
1.1, why is it
still not
working?
Please
contact us with
as much detail
as possible, so
we can look into
the problem and
resolve it.
If you have any
comments or
suggestions
about these
applications,

us know.
