Frequently
Asked
Questions |
| |
|
How does this work? |
|
The software
converts the email addresses
in your
website into JavaScript code. A browser like
Internet Explorer or
Firefox can convert the
JavaScript back into human-readable email addresses. But email spiders
aren't sophisticated enough to handle JavaScript, so they can't collect
the addresses to spam you with. |

|
What if a visitor doesn't have JavaScript? |
|
Non-JavaScript users
- which make up less than
4% of
users - will see a link saying 'Contact Us'. When they click on
this, they will be taken to a form that allows them
to send you a message. |

|
Why does the new page source code contain a link to
datadevil.co.uk? |
|
For
1 - 4 % of your visitors the JavaScript version of
the link will not work. In order for these users to contact you we
provide them with a link to our message form that they can use
instead. Click here to see the form.
This is also one of the reasons, that we can provide the service
free. By adding our link to your web page, though it is invisible
to most people, it helps improve our search engine positioning.

|
Why haven't all my addresses been encoded? |
|
In order not to 'break' web pages, sometimes the software
leaves an address that it doesn't know how to deal with. An
example of this could be when an HTML tag is not closed properly.
All pages that conform to W3C HTML standards should convert
fully, and so will most other pages. The software does not fully
support the
mailto tag
syntax
at present,
we hope to
include this
in a future
version,
especially
if there is
demand for
it.

let us know. |

|
Will this stop all the spam I receive? |
|
No. This is one important method of preventing spam,
especially if you have a large number of visitors to your website.
For more information about how email address are gathered, read this
article about preventing
spam. |

The
software
shows an
error
message when
it is run.
What am I
doing wrong? |
|
The most
likely cause
of this is
that you
haven't yet
downloaded
and
installed
the
Microsoft .NET
Framework 1.1. Nearly all
of the new
software DataDevil
produces now
uses the
.NET
framework
and it may
not already
be installed
on your
computer.
Please also
check you
have
downloaded
the file
before
trying to
run it,
otherwise
you may
encounter a
security
error.
If you are
having a
different problem,
please
contact us
with a
detailed
description
and we will
be pleased
to assist. |
